Icaridin* - research turns into brands

Autan Active contains a revolutionary active called Icaridin* (the trade name of the patented chemical KBR 3023), which was developed during a 12-year research programme.

A recent report by the WHO Pesticide Evaluation Scheme concluded that Icaridin* can be recommended as the repellent of choice for malarial prevention.
The report's finding show that Icaridin* has both good safety profile and cosmetic properties. Alone or in typical formulations it does not significantly attack common household materials. The survey also notes that, in tests under temperate conditions against important malarial and other disease carriers, it demonstrated excellent repellent qualities comparable with those of standard DEET. As a result, Icaridin* can be recommended as a safe and effective insect repellent for human use. A single application can give up to 8 hours protection from mosquito bites.

Icardin’s* safety
To demonstrate just how safe Icaridin* is, an exhaustive programme of testing was run in close collaboration with the EPA (the US American registration authority). The studies found Icaridin* to have no negative effects and concluded that it:
• Is harmless when used according to label instructions.
• Is outstandingly kind to the skin.
• Shows a minimal absorption rate.
• Is suitable for children from the age of two onwards.
The effect of Icaridin* on various materials was also tested. The results showed that Icaridin* has no adverse affect on plastic, synthetics, plastic coatings and sealants.
Icaridin* was also tested for its cosmetic properties. Here too exceptional results were shown. The formulation is not sticky, and is pleasant and safe to use on the skin if label instructions are followed.
Icaridin*, the new generation of insect repellents, is marketed under the AUTAN brand name. Distribution started in 1998, and has been extended successfully to all markets throughout the world.
